Yesaji Kank : The Man Who Defeated an Elephant.

Who was Yesaji Kank?🔥🔥🔥

Yesaji Kank was a very strong soldier or maavlaa in The army of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He was physically well built, was very strong and was known for it.

Battle with an Elephant, but why ?

This event actually occurred when Yesaji Kank, the great was accompanying his king to the Dakshin Mohim meaning when King Shivaji went to capture the deccan part of India. On his way Shivaji Maharaj had plans to go to meet Qutub Shaha who had turned into an ally of the Marathas after negotiations. When Qutub Shaha came to know that the great king Shivaji is coming to meet him, he decided to himself escort Shivaji Maharaj and arranged an auspicious welcome ceremony for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Qutub Shaha on reaching in his palace started boasting about his big horses and large elephants and asked Chhatrapati that whether he too has such large elephants in his army to which King Shivaji replied in negative as the Marathas were experts in Guerilla Warfare and elephants were of no use to them. But King Shivaji assserted that, "Though I don't have elephants in my force, my one soldier is no less than an elephant."  To which Qutub Shaha demanded a proof and he asked whether he could choose a soldier from King Shivaji's army to fight with an elephant, to which the king replied in affirmitive. Qutub Shaha randomly chose Yesaji Kank and asked him to fight. Yesaji Kank bowed to Chhatrapti and asked for permission and he was granted the permission to fight.

🔥🔥The Battle🔥🔥

Yesaji went into the ring and an angry elephant rushed towards him. The elephant's aim was only to crush Yesaji under its foot. At the first sight of such a huge and angry creature rushing towards him Yesaji acted of being scared and started running and went behind the elephant. Though Elephant is a huge creature, neither it can turn back immediately nor it can kick anyone with its legs at back. Using this weak point of the elephant, Yesaji strongly held the elphant's tail in his hand. He held it so tightly that the elephant started yelling in pain and it raised its trunk and it this point Yesaji immediately went in front and chopped of the Elephants trunk and Killed it.

Ethics and Loyalty of the Marathas

After this incident, Qutub Shaha's trust over Marathas significantly increased and he started believing that they are the one who can keep the deccan area safe against any powers. Qutub Shaha offered a necklace of pearls to Yesaji. But Yesaji rejected it saying his king was capable of appreciating him as he had to unwillingly kill an innocent elephant just to prove the strength of Marathas to Qutub Shaha.
